You should be able to sit down, press play, and practice Spanish for free. That’s the idea behind the Learn Spanish For Real YouTube channel: useful words, everyday phrases, and time to say them out loud with Avo, your avocado study buddy.
I’m Zoey Pike, the developer behind LSFR. Alongside building the learning app, I’m creating Spanish videos that fit different kinds of days. Sometimes you have an hour for a proper lesson. Sometimes you have a minute before heading out for coffee. Both are a chance to practice, and the videos below are free to watch.
Free Spanish practice, at your pace
The channel combines longer listen-and-repeat lessons with quick videos built around something you might actually want to say. You can pause, replay a difficult phrase, or return to one chapter without paying for a course. An LSFR subscription isn’t required to watch these YouTube lessons.
Avo gives the lessons a familiar face. The focus stays on practical Spanish: hearing a word or phrase, understanding its meaning, and giving yourself a chance to try it. Start with any of the three free videos below.
FREE FULL LESSON · 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES
100 Spanish phrases for everyday life
This beginner lesson moves through meeting people, being polite, asking someone to repeat themselves, making plans, ordering food, shopping, and getting around. Each phrase comes with an English meaning, a slower Spanish repeat, and an example that gives it context.
A good place to start: jump to 11:05 for understanding and asking again. Practice the phrases until you can say them before the answer. The sentence challenge at 58:34 gives you another way to test yourself. The whole lesson is free, so take it in small sections and come back whenever you need.
FREE FULL LESSON · 1 HOUR 7 MINUTES
150 essential Spanish words, with real examples
A vocabulary list becomes more useful when you hear the words in sentences. This lesson pairs 150 essential Spanish words with 150 example sentences, covering home, food, everyday verbs, people, routines, places, travel, descriptions, conversation helpers, and numbers.
Listen to the Spanish, hear the English meaning, then repeat the slower reading. Each chapter ends with five word-recall prompts, and the final section has a 30-sentence challenge. Try the food and drink chapter at 05:39 if you want a manageable first session.
The longer lessons use synthesized Mexican Spanish and American English narration. Slower repeats and pauses give you room to answer instead of simply watching the words go by.
FREE SHORT · 69 SECONDS
A quick café stop: order coffee in Spanish
Short on time? This free Short covers eight useful café phrases in just over a minute. Practice ordering, asking for milk or no sugar, requesting takeaway, checking the price, and paying by card.
Two phrases to take with you: “Quisiera un café” means “I’d like a coffee,” and “Para llevar, por favor” means “To go, please.” Say them aloud, replay the video, and try the exchange without looking at the English.
A simple way to use the free lessons
- Choose one topic. A chapter or a Short is enough for a session.
- Listen once, then repeat aloud. Pause if you need a little more time.
- Try before the answer. Use the recall prompts or cover the translation to check what you remember.
- Come back to it. Revisit the same free video and see which phrases feel easier to recall.
You don’t have to finish an hour-long video in one sitting. The chapters make it easy to build a shorter routine around the situations you care about.
